I'm new to WS, just in the process of transferring in my RRSP. I would like to carve off part of my RRSP and convert it to a RRIF, since I can then make RRIF withdrawals that split the income between my spouse and I. Note that I am not yet 71 so I am not being forced to convert my RRSPs to RRIFs, and I do not want to convert my entire RRSP to a RRIF.

Has anyone done this type of partial RRSP conversion with WS before? I assume that I have to create a new RRSP account, transfer some of my RRSP assets from the original account to the new one, then convert the new RRSP to a RRIF. Or is it possible to convert only part of an existing RRSP to a RRIF? How much of this can I do self-service versus having to talk to an agent?
