Chicago peeps, what’s Chi Town like?
I’m getting an ahead of myself but I’m at the early stages of interviewing for a job in Chicago which has a relo offer.
I’m a Northeast girl through and through and have never been to Chicago. What I know about the city:
- it’s nicknamed the Windy City
- blue dot in a red state
- the influencer, Signed Blake (love her) calls Chicago home. Cause of Blake, I know Wasbash is a train stop
- Millennium Park, The Bean, amazing culinary culture, Chicago Bulls, Deep Dish Pizza, brutal winters but great summers, Lollapalooza
- oooh also, and this is my funniest and most random Chicago fact - in 2004, Dave Matthew’s Band emptied their tank (as in their shit tank) through the Kinzie Street Bridge. An open-top sightseeing boat sailing through the Chicago River was underneath the bus as it released the contents and people got hit, 💀💀
Fun Chi Town facts aside, I’d love to hear from anyone who’s familiar with the city. I know there’s a Black presence in the Chi but where? What neighborhoods would you recommend? What’s the public transportation system like? Where are the white neighborhoods, so I can avoid them. What’s the dating scene like? I’m single and bi, in my 30s, and vegetarian - how do all those identities fare in the city?
Thanks in advance!!
