I wanted to flag what feels like a pretty misleading practice from Derrimut 24/7 gyms and see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

They advertise memberships at $9.95 per week, which is what I signed up for. However, I recently noticed that my direct debit had been increased to $12.95 per week without any clear notice.

What makes this more frustrating is that they are still actively advertising the $9.95 rate, even after increasing my existing membership payments. The advertising is on their website and even my promotional email - My wife received an email on the 27th April stating their $9.95 per week rate.

When I contacted them, I was told that an email notification had been sent to me that prices were increasing from April 1st. I am subscribed to their emails and haven’t received a single notification of such a thing. I asked for proof of this and haven’t received any response—it’s now been over 48 hours after a second follow up email. How can they ‘advise’ current members a price increase from 1st April then actively advertise the ‘old’ price nearly a month later?

At this point, it feels like either:

- Notifications aren’t being reliably sent, or

- They’re increasing fees without properly informing members in hopes people don’t notice their direct debit amounts change…

Either way, it’s not a great look and has been reported to consumer affairs.
