I (16M) have lived with my brother (19M) in the same room my whole life. It's a very small space compared to most rooms, so we've always had to share a bunk bed. The first bunk bed we had was great, but it started breaking. So less than a year ago, we got another one, but after getting it, my parents started complaining that it was creaking too much. I personally thought it was fine.
Just yesterday, my brother and I came home to the bed completely dismantled in the garage. I go upstairs to see a very obviously hand-me-down bedframe, and supposedly a new mattress for me. At first glance, it's weirdly colored unpainted wood, which neither me nor my brother care for, and it's very obviously made for like 4 year olds. We test things out, and immediately, my mattress is HUGE, on the top bunk, and I'm close to falling off the bed if I roll too hard in my sleep. Down a 5 and a half foot drop. Not to mention there's a couple random drawings made by toddlers that are just odd. Meanwhile, my brother, who is an adult, mind you, has almost no space between his mattress and the bottom of mine. He had already hit his head twice in a matter of ten minutes trying to get in and out. The entire thing is very unstable in some corners, and his part of the bed has tons of drawings and writing obviously made by a young girl. On top of that, they took absolutely all of our stuff off and refuse to put it back for us.
Now, normally these could be fixed in some way shape or form. But here's the thing. Any problem we bring up about it, they instantly hit us with "You need to stop complaining" and "You're so ungrateful". They refuse to paint over it, and they refuse to modify it at all to allow my brother space. And mind you, they did not tell either of us this was happening, nor did they ask if we had an opinion on anything about this scenario.
So basically, they won't let us change anything, saying "You'll get used to it". Yeah, okay. My brother is expected to wake up in the morning, and instantly, while tired try to wiggle out of bed without sitting up.
I can see that they put a lot of work into doing what they thought was best, but now they're saying we're in the wrong. So who's the asshole in this scenario?
