I know most of the people on here are probably tea aficionados, and think sweetened tea, especially what they do in the Southern US, is sacrilegious, hahaha. I’m kidding around mostly. That is great when you want to sit and make a cup or hot tea in a nice cup and sip while reading. But I’m looking for alternative beverages to replace sodas and southern sweet teas when out in a hot day, maybe sweating in the backyard, or something similar.

I live in the Southern US, and grew up on sweet tea. But never was really into some of the extremely sweet tea that exists down here. As I’m getting older I’m preferring a sweet/unsweetened mix that is inching ever so slightly more unsweetened, but I just plain don’t like purely unsweetened tea.

So I’m curious about how people are self brewing tea that you can make in a larger amount, like half or full gallons to store in the fridge. For me there just would need to be some sugar/sweetener added during/right after a hot brew because adding sugar to cold tea as you probably know is just plain useless.

Is there any good tea brewing machine where I can add water, tea, some sugar, let it go and get some slightly sweetened tea I can stick in the fridge for later? Or am I stuck brewing it hot and adding sugar right after?

I’ve never brewed my own tea before so just looking for some recommendations on the easiest way to get a slightly sweetened (or at least non bitter) iced tea for when I’m finished mowing the lawn on a 90 degree day here in the South. What are you using for a sweet iced tea maker?

I’m also open to different kinds of tea that would serve as a cold refreshing drink on a hot summer day. I just don’t like extremely sweet tea, and also don’t really prefer citrusy teas with like lemon or peach, although I love lemons and peaches.

Thanks!
