Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a project I’ve been living in for the last couple of years. It’s called State Line Souls, and it’s an immersive narrative that blends a trilogy of books with a massive, interconnected discography.
The Sound: Imagine the technical, rhythmic storytelling of NF combined with the raw, gravelly grit of Sam Barber and the atmospheric, "Room Below" emotional weight of Sleep Token. It’s minimalist but cinematic—relying on dusty upright pianos, 62 BPM mechanical hammer pulses, and intimate acoustic guitars. No synths. Just pure, acoustic emotion.
The Story: The project follows a character’s descent from the "Tall Grass" (Phase 1) into a decade-long psychological imprisonment in the "Cellar Door" (Phase 2), and the eventual, painful ascent back to the surface (Phase 3). The music acts as the heartbeat of the books—every track is a specific moment, a specific fracture in the timeline.
We are currently 3 days out from the release of Above the Tall Grass, which marks a pivotal shift from beauty into the panic of the fall.
If you’re into music that feels like a gut punch—where the vocals break and the lyrics don't shy away from the dark—I’d love for you to take a walk through the tall grass with me.
