Hand Drawing my TCG's Art:) Sketching the Valiant Samurai card for 1000 Blades

Hi, I'm ACP_Nate. I've decided to draw all the art for 1000 Blades, my trading card game. I still have about 30ish to go... Might take a lil while haha But, I am having fun with it and I plan on sharing here on Reddit and various places.

This is my penciled artwork for the Valiant Samurai game card. Next step is digitally inking and coloring in Procreate.

This artwork took a drastic turn from my original vision, but I am glad I pushed through and let the art take the lead. I like the energy and dramatic perspective of this piece. Also, this piece is less cluttered than my original idea. That will be important when printing on the small frame of a trading card.

Overall, I'm happy with it:)

How many of you find yourself trying to zoom in on a paper drawing after working in Procreate a bunch? 😄 Can't just be me.

I penciled this scene by hand on paper, then took a photo and plopped it into Procreate for inking. No fancy brushes — just the basics.

Quick tip if you're new to comic-style work: set your ink layer to Multiply. All the white space becomes transparent, which makes the coloring process a bit easier.

This is a card for my 1000 Blades TCG — an indie trading card game I'm building. I'm hand-drawing every single piece of art! This one is Traitorous Raiders, a yokai faction warrior card.

Happy to answer questions about the game or the process.

I've been building a trading card game called 1000 Blades. I was using AI art while I developed the game mechanics and browser game foundation (building with GDevelop, of course:). But I made the decision to go all-in and hand-draw every card myself. I still have about 30ish cards to go.

It's going to take a while, but I think it's worth it. Every card has a story, which I'm developing as I draw.

Here's one of the pencil sketches I'm currently working on — the Traitorous Raiders, a yokai faction warrior.

Anyone else building a card game in GDevelop? Would love to connect.

Happy to answer any questions about the browser game build if anyone's curious.
