I have a preschooler that qualified when he turned 3 in the fall but the parent just finished turning in the registration paperwork last week (it’s almost May!) So he’s had no speech service this whole time. He just started we had legit 1 session and parents want more time the think because he’s so behind and delayed my original service time recommendation isn’t enough.
Now do I think this kid could benefit from an extra session a week? Yes. But do I have enough data points to support this increase - NO! He just started. Not our fault - the parent decided to turn the papers in just now. So yes he is very behind expressive language wise and his articulation is now popping up as a concern as well. We have a month left of school until summer break :) what would you do. I feel for this child but if I follow special education law I don’t think I can justify increasing services for a child I’ve seen ONCE! Help what would you do - and how would you explain to the parent?
