Problem/Goal: Meeting deadlines
Context: I’ve handled quite a lot of Gen Z employees since pandemic and I noticed that there’s a recurring issue I’m dealing with most of my hires (if not all).
For people na magsasabi na wag na maghire ng Gen Z, I personally believe that they’re very talented and we could learn from them a lot but I struggle with them when it comes to deadlines. More often than not, they don’t meet the schedule they give you.
Previous Attempts: I try to meet with them first to discuss the tasks then I’ll ask them the timeline they can deliver their outputs. So dun ako magbebase ng timeline namin as a team. But come deadline, I’ll wait even past EOD, and nothing. Sasabihin ginagawa pa. It’s weird because I’ve experienced this quite a few times already with multiple employees na rin and I always end up finishing the job. Hindi kasi ako ma-micromanage dahil ayoko ring ginagawa sa’kin yun so I trust na matapos sya sa deadline na ikaw mismo ang nagbigay.
For Gen Z employees, what are your challenges meeting deadlines and how can a manager like me help you better? Nanghihinayang kasi ako minsan na mag-fire ng employee na magaling dahil lang sa deadline (but for me this is work ethics na rin eh) but I always end up cleaning up the mess. Ang hirap magbuild ng team huhu
P.S nahihirapan din ako mag-balance kasi they will usually start na on time naman tapos may mamimiss na deadline then I’ll say no worries, bukas na lang. Then eventually, lagi nang behind sa schedule. How do you balance it?
