Can someone help me break this down please? Info below.
So my direct ancestor that came to North America were French Huguenots from France that settled in Manakintown Virginia in 1700 coming over as the second group of the *Peter and Anthony* ship. It was Gaspard Guerrier/Kernier and his son Jean Gaspard De Kernier which was by the 1740s anglicized to Carner and my ancestors that settled Kentucky and Tennessee. However I'm confused by what the actual surname is, because both Guerrier and Kernier are mentioned as the surname and of course there's multiple spellings and renditions of the same name Karner/Kernier/Korner/Garner/Gar/Gardner/etc. Susanne Dupre records her surname as Kernier in the 1740s, and Gaspard is mentioned as Gerner/Gardner/Gorner in ship and church records as much as Guerrier. Kernier seems to be the actual accepted surname and seems to be of Breton nobility origin specifically Plouvara Brittany, but Guerrier is also a surname mentioned as well. Is there a separation or just different renditions of the same name? Any help or breakdown would be appreciated.

"The wife Susanne is also consistent with a later deed she executed, showing her married name as "Kernier"."
"Gaspar Gueruer, wife, 3 children"
