18 month old nephew is in a hitting phase and my 8 month old/my 5 month old niece are most often the targets.

We’ve tried:

- Gentle hands/redirection to gentle/kind actions

- Short time out

- Interrupting the hitting by stopping his hand

- Removal from the fun

Nothing is really working except separating him from anyone who can’t fend for themselves. He has no impulse control and minimal verbal language. Can’t logic or reason yet, and can’t make him apologize either.

Not really, but I halfway can’t wait for my kid to get a little bigger so that he can fend for himself and hit him back. The toddler most recently picked up a heavy wooden toy and attempted to crack my baby over the head with it. I understand he doesn’t really have any understanding of what he’s doing, but it’s not safe.

Any tips? How do you keep your older child from injuring your younger child?
