McCalls 7931 Modification

I made this skirt McCalls 7931. I had high hopes for it. It came out wearable but not that good. I want to make another one to correct mistakes and to make sure that I have learned what it takes to make this skirt. The main thing I don’t like about it is that it has an invisible zipper on the left side. I got it in with two tries but it is a little bunched up. This skirt is also lined and then has little facing that is turned in. I doubt that it will stay turned in when wearing it so I’m going to have to tack it down in a few places. I have some other fabric for a second try at this that is also a slippery fabric. What I want to do is to modify the pattern so it has an elastic waist instead of the zipper and facing. I’m looking for an opinion. Is this a pretty easy modification? Just ignore the zipper instructions and turn the top down to make a casing???
