This is my first sheep fleece. Still have 1/3 to go but am ecstatic with the yarn so far!! Pink is cochineal i think i threw a little logwood in as well, blue/purple is logwood (may have thrown a little cochineal in there LOL) and yellow is… RED CLOVER! I picked a hundred blossoms from the field because they are going to mow it for a festival in ~2 weeks. Heated for an hour and sat it overnight. The yellow on this yarn is subtle BUT i am cool dyeing store bought white wool in the rest of the tea rn and it’s BIGTIME yellow - pics to come after they’re done and rinsed we shall see. I also did an alkanet skein but the color is off white - disappointing and expensive.
Now I’m off to make a shawl!
I am having trouble understanding how to prepare my wool. Some sections I have no problem carding but then there are these really little curls in these awful sections lol! I card and it does nothing. I am trying to now brush it with a wet brush (like the hair brand not actually wet) and then card but those curls still get in the way of my spinning - maybe I’m supposed to leave them for texture ?! Idk anything about this curly stuff any help is much appreciated.
Our 2 snails are en route via mail (delayed! were supposed to arrive yesterday booo) and i made my husband participate in a Snail Soiree with me to celebrate!
We:
- had 2 minutes to run around the backyard looking for the biggest snail we could find and the winner was snail king/queen
- had a naming ceremony where we entered name duos and voted on them (bingo and bongo won)
- i hosted Sneopardy (snail Jeopardy) with topics like species, human relevance, and diet and he did sooo well
- read snail poetry written by our friends (i texted them - they live far - to write to us)
- i sang the star spangled banner with snail lyrics
- pin the tail on the snail (ik it’s not a “tail” lol)
- i cut rubber to make a snail mail print and we printed 8 cards and this morning wrote to our friends who participated and sent them off with SpongeBob SquarePants stamps that have Gary the snail on them
Raging success looking forward to 2027 Snail Soiree with actual SNAILS and more peeps than 2!!
