First time surf fishing in almost 12 years and need help remembering stuff

So as the title says, it's been a while. Last time I fished off a beach was on Padre Island in the winter of 2014. I still have some of the tackle but I'm having trouble getting it set up for my trip to Grand Isle Louisiana with my brother tomorrow.

I got this pre-made "pompano rig" way back when for that Padre Island heavy winter surf. Is this gonna be too heavy duty for Grand Isle? Assuming it's useable, I'll move on with some other questions

1. Attaching to main line: Y'all I apologize for the ultra beginner nature of this. I'm using a 20lb braided main. Should I tie on directly to the labeled swivel (top right) or tie on a clip and attach to the swivel with that?

2. Attaching hooks: I have some 2/0 snell hooks with 8" of mono lead. Can I just attach the loop to the clips or is that gonna be too much line just waiting to get tangled up? Is too much line for a foam float to be useful?

Should I just start from scratch and build my own with some good monofilament and make some loops in it for hooks and floats or is this heavy contraption gonna be fine?

Thanks y'all
