PSA: I'm a newish fan to 40k, and will be making total war 40k as my first total war game. So this idea is more so a concept I wish is cool. Also a massive lore head

Very big hope for total war 40k is the ability to wage war across multiple systems. It might be to much to manage on any one front, yet this would simulate how your forces could spread out in multiple directions. Having one army battling in a small one or two world system. Then another waging war in larger systems, and it feels so cool. This isn't anything to wild to me, yet I have no frame of reference so take as you will.
