Four years ago was the last time I shaved my head and now I’m here (I might be delulu, but I have always thought my hair grows relatively quickly). I love having long hair, but I think it’s the culprit behind my recent headaches and neck pain. I have read through a lot of the advice in other threads here about the issue, but I think unfortunately a major chop is really what needs to happen for me. Loose braids, updos, wild and free, none of it seems to work anymore. Also idk why my hair looks dull in this pic, but it’s healthy and fairly shiny irl if that matters. So here’s what I’m wondering:
- Any advice on how much to take off to relieve the headaches? I’d really like to keep it at least mid-back if possible; my hair is pretty fine so I don’t think it’s too heavy at a more manageable length.
- if anyone has some words of wisdom about the emotional side of a big chop, that would be greatly appreciated too. I have only cut it once since a loved one passed way, and I think that’s a big part of what’s been holding me back from making a change. I know that’s probably more of a “go to therapy” question, but figured if anyone understands it would be this community. 💜
(Thanks for reading if you made it this far, I did not mean for this to be such a long post)
