Looking to build my first PC. Nvidia seems to be the gold standard but radeon is much more economical. Is there really much of a difference? What are the pros and cons of both?

Looking for a PC that can play the latest games. Not looking for too end but would like to be able to play new games on medium/high settings at 60 fps with a bit of future proofing built it. Upgradability would be nice.
