Official unemployment figures for the Asheville economy were updated today. Numbers for January have been finalized and preliminary figures for February have now been made available.

January

The unemployment rate increased to 3.8% in January. 7,961 positions were lost, and 6,845 workers left the labor force causing the unemployment rate increase. Nonfarm payrolls fell by 3,100. No individual sector saw significant employment changes.

February (preliminary)

The unemployment rate fell to 3.6% in February. 1,560 positions were added, with only 1,109 workers entering the labor force causing the unemployment rate decrease. The overall Nonfarm Payrolls figure did not change significantly. No individual sector saw significant employment changes.
