New shelves for my collection

Over a year ago I got laid off from my job and had to move several states over for a new one. I couldn’t bring my old DVD shelves because they had been DIY custom-made for that particular house. So I did what any sane collector of physical media does: I DIY’d some custom shelves for the new house.

The first two pics show the entirety of both shelves, the remaining pics focus on the anime parts of the collection. I had actually fallen away from collecting anime in recent years because streaming had become so prevalent that I glumly thought there weren’t going to be anymore decent releases. Then on a whim I looked through Amazon a few months ago and discovered there were far more anime series on physics media than I had expected. The biggest surprise was a physical release of “Odd Taxi,” of all things. In short, my collection grew significantly in recent weeks. And also, no, I’m not and have never been much of a streamer; I refuse to take part in FOMO and prefer owning my media outright.

New shelves for a new house

Over a year ago, I got laid off from my job and had to relocate a few states away for a new job. I sadly couldn’t take my old DVD shelves with me because they were DIY custom-built for that particular house and wouldn’t really work in the new house.

So I did what any sane individual who collects physical media does: I built a brand new set of custom shelves for my new house, and I think they turned out pretty well. Probably the only drawback is that they’re so tall that I need a stepladder to reach the top shelves, but that’s a small price to pay for displaying my entire collection.

As a bonus, I’ve also includes a pic of a spinning tower shelf I also custom-built, which is currently being used to display my game collection.

DIY Spinning Shelf for Game Collection

This weekend I completed a personal project to make a spinning shelf for my gaming collection, and I am very proud of the results.

Is it perfect? No, absolutely not. I originally intended it to be twice as tall as the final result, but after cutting all the pieces and routing all the dados I realized the weight would likely be too much for the lazy Susan hardware I had bought. So I cut the side pieces in half, which resulted in some gaps at the top. My woodcutting skills are also still fairly amateur, so the pieces don’t fit together perfectly. But I still love the overall results, it really looks good next to my DIY wall shelves for my movies and shows (seen in the background).

My collection is split up into two halves, each taking two sides of the spinning shelf. The first half is all the games I haven’t yet played (i.e., my backlog), the second half is all the games I have finished.
