JBU2832 LAS to MCO May 7 - Smoke or Thermal Runaway event
Very scary 5 minutes or so on this flight coming into MCO. Someone’s device started smoking in the middle of the plane about 30 minutes before landing. The flight attendants handled it well and called for a safety box or pouch. One of them put on a smoke hood while dealing with it. No wide spread panic unfolded, but a few passengers jumped up to grab bags from the overhead bins, but most were shouted back to their seats by the flight attendants. The smell was noxious. I still feel a bit sick. Ultimately they dealt with it and the smell dissipated. I was surprised there was never an official announcement from the flight crew. An official emergency wasn’t declared (I assume). No fire trucks or emergency personnel were on the tarmac after we landed and we deplaned without further incident.
