Night Cycling Options

With sun setting so early, are there any reasonably safe night-cycling options in or near the CBD area?

Was desperate for a ride last night so I did the capital city trail section between Docklands and Parkville. Seemed ok, but some sections are pitch black. I had good lights and took it slow, but just didn't feel great riding through the pitch black sections with no one else around.

Thought Brunswick Velodrome might be a reasonable option, but that was pitch black too when I checked it out a week or two ago.

Hey All,

I recently got myself some Velo Orange Seine bars for my mountain bike. Thought I would also add some inner bar ends for an alternate position during long rides.

These inner bar ends on VO Seine bars is what I was going for.

However, the bar ends that I bought (Origin8 Pro Lite) unfortunately aren't wide enough to go around the bend on my Seine bars. I have tried gently prying them wider with a screwdriver and also lubing them with Shimano grease, but neither has worked.

I think if I twisted and muscled them, they might go through. But I don't want to scratch up my bars. Would this be a lost cause or is there a way to pry the bar ends wider to make them go over without scratching up the bars?
