Serious concerns regarding off-campus hostel conditions for research scholars at IIT Goa
There have been repeated concerns raised by research scholars regarding the living conditions in the off-campus hostels at IIT Goa. These include:
- excessive heat inside rooms during the night
- power cuts during rain
- water and washing facility issues
- internet problems
- transportation issues between the hostel and institute
- concerns regarding overall hostel security and safety
The room conditions during summer become extremely difficult to manage, especially at night, and students are expected to continue adjusting despite the impact on health and overall well-being.
What makes the situation more frustrating is that sstudents often feel compelled to continue living under these conditions due to strict hostel rules and the rejection of requests for alternative accommodation/HRA. Research scholars are expected to follow hostel timing restrictions similar to undergraduate students, regardless of individual academic or personal circumstances.
The issue is no longer about comfort or convenience. It is about whether research students are being provided with reasonable living conditions while pursuing demanding academic work.
Many concerns have already been raised formally, but practical solutions still appear to be missing.
