Looking to get a new controller since the one I currently use is a limited collab I like and want to keep mint. Ended up at the g7 pro. The 8k looks like an all around better version. I mainly plan to play 2k but occasionally game some on the steam deck with friends. Does the 8k version still have Bluetooth connection? Didn't look like it said on the page. Saw some people had a 2k version and saw one on aliexpress has anyone had luck buying theirs there? How's your g7 held up over time?

Let's start with the controller.

The only thing it has going for it are track pads and a good battery life. If you plan to use it on pc it is a bad controller option at $100.

The track pads add nothing if youre not planning to specifically play on deck/machine or play games on your pc that will give you a bad experience controlling vs mouse. The trackpads were nice on the deck because it allowed you to play games it really has no business playing if you really want to. Its also hideous. It looks worse than half the mockups that were made. For under 100$ you can get multiple controllers that do every single thing steam controller does except the trackpads. Those cheaper controllers will also feel and look better while also allowing you to use it off of pc or non steam games on pc.

Now onto the machine. Valve said for the longest time no steam deck 2, tech hasn't advanced enough. Then they put tech that is just good enough for steam deck 2 into a box that will be overpriced. 40-60 fps in games like cyberpunk is what I expect on a good handheld not something I have to sit down for. It will soon be outdated and is smoked by older hardware already.

I have loved steam for a long time, have always told console players about how steam saves you money on games and they should switch over. With this hardware release it feels like they were pressured to rush to cash in on the mainstream hardware recognition the steam deck got. Valve for a long time has played the underdog since they prioritized the consumer and are a private company despite being massive. This hardware launch feels like something a board of directors of a public company would push.
