...so I'm making an RPG inspired by UT/DR!

You play as an autistic wizard, attend magic university and have a weird, exciting, scary and confusing time with other magical creatures... loosely based on my experiences not really feeling like I fit in with the world socially.

Undertale (and lately Deltarune) got me into making music, and that made me wonder what it was like to craft your own story as a game. To get an authentic Toby Fox experience, I'm also using Gamemaker, FL Studio and dodgy wrongly-scaled pixel art!

My findings so far:

  • Game development is REALLY hard. I thought this would take me 6 months but I'm over two years in with more to go... (i'M tAkiNg toO LoNG)
  • It's really, really cool to see my little guys become real, even if it's just on my own computer screen right now
  • I haven't turned into a dog yet, but I've thought about it o_O
  • Whenever I use a leitmotif I feel like an immortal genius

The game is called Wizard Magic! If you're looking to follow.... this is the best place.

Undertale and Deltarune got me into making music, and that made me wonder what it was like to craft your own story as a game.

  • Of course I'm using Gamemaker for the engine
  • Of course I'm using FL Studio for the music
  • Of course it's pixel art (I don't have a Temmie, so I'm making that too)
  • Of course the battles are bullet he-- wait, no actually you can shoot back (it's a shmup?)

You play as an autistic wizard, attend magic university and have a weird, exciting, scary and confusing time with other magical creatures.

If you wanna know what it's like to be Toby Fox (except without any of the fans lmao) feel free to ask!! But as a TLDR:

  • It's WAY harder than I thought (2+ years, only a few hours of game)
  • It's way more satisfying than I thought (my little guys are real!!)
  • I haven't turned into a dog yet, but I've thought about it o_O
  • Whenever I use a leitmotif I feel like an immortal genius (I am not)

Edit: since people have asked, the game is called Wizard Magic!

You attend magic university and have a weird, exciting, scary and confusing time with other magical creatures. Loosely based on my experiences trying (failing) to socialize at school and beyond.

Some features:

  • All your healing items are sensory experiences
  • Thought bubbles appear with curious (or intrusive) thoughts when interacting with the world
  • You can wander off the main story and have a panic attack (affectionate)
  • Socially inappropriate dialogue choices
  • Your wizard familiar has ADHD (and a lot of it)

Oh and there's shoot-em-up/bullet hell combat because I also like gameplay in my video games (controversial????)

I haven't come across many explicitly autistic lead characters in games before, but I'm excited to contribute an autistic rep to pixel art RPGs (even though maybe not everyone will "get" them)..!
