Got pulled over at Banastari bridge speed trap today morning

So I got flagged down by traffic cops positioned right at the end of the Banastari bridge today. Got a challan for doing 50kmph in a 30kmph zone which is just the bridge.

The cop says that the next challan I get will result in the suspension of my licence. He then offered me the option of placing a Rs 500 note in the cop car instead of the challan being issued.

My main point: Feels less like traffic enforcement and more like a revenue to fatten their wallets. The position of the speed trap seems very predatory to me. There were 2 other people who were fined along with me, imagine on the low end they fine 1 person every 4 mins pays 500 and they stand out there for 3 hours every single day, imagine the amount of money going into their pockets.

Has anyone else been caught at this exact spot? Is this a known trap? Do I just pay the challan and move on? or is it worth reporting the bribe solicitation?

I paid nothing on the spot. Will have to pay the challan later. But wanted to hear if others have had a similar experience.

Thoughts? And some prayers for the 1000 that will leave my bank account.
