Honestly all the pick me’s and white worshipping is exhausting and makes it kind of feel pointless to bother having any pride in being Asian.
You look at the “Asian representation” and it seems to infinitely more common to see white passing “part Asians” being the role models all Asians should strive to look like in western media than people that look like us. (Even in movies like crazy rich Asians) Proximity to whiteness is still currency within spaces that claim to be built for pocs.
Positive portrayals of visibly Asian people seem to come directly from Asia which is already an extremely niche and doesn’t have the broad appeal Hollywood type stuff has in the actual lives of Asian Americans so I don’t feel like it has really changed how the gay community perceives us in general.
This whole situation seems to just be a cage I can’t feel good about in any way since it always points to the whole “Asians are inferior” narrative no matter how I slice this cake.
