Paying $1400/month, no dishwasher, no laundry… but at least my plants are illegal 👍

I’ve been living in this complex for a bit and I genuinely can’t tell if this is normal or if I accidentally moved into a sitcom written by someone who hates tenants.

I’m paying around $1400/month for a one-bedroom (includes some utilities and pet fees, electric separate). Cool, fine. Except:

no dishwasher

no in-unit laundry

one shared washer/dryer that costs like $7–10 per use

So already we’re off to a strong “premium experience” start.

But the real issue is the absolute chaos of how anything is managed.

When I moved in, part of what sold me was the patio setup—there was a privacy bush that made it feel like an actual usable space. That got removed shortly after I moved in. Just… gone. No replacement, no explanation, just vibes.

Later I added a couple small plants outside my patio. Nothing wild. Just trying to make the place not look like a sad concrete afterthought. Maintenance literally told me it was fine.

Then I get a notice from the office to remove them.

Okay. Annoying, but whatever—I comply.

Except now I STILL see multiple other units with plants in the exact same spots.

So apparently the rule is:

plants are illegal… unless they’re not… depending on the phase of the moon?

Now let’s talk about the office.

The main manager (who I’ve privately nicknamed “Karen” because… if you know, you know) has a very specific energy. Think less “let me help you” and more “I’ve been waiting all day to enforce something.”

Every interaction feels like you’re being processed, not helped. And the tone? Consistently somewhere between condescending and unnecessarily aggressive over the smallest things.

Meanwhile actual problems are just… existing freely.

For example:

My lease. The thing you’d think is kind of important.

Turns out it wasn’t even in their system.

I only found out because my key card randomly stopped working. I go to the office, and they’re like “yeah we don’t have your lease on file.”

Cool cool cool.

So I had to send THEM my signed copy to fix THEIR records.

And then—because why not—there was the time I had one late payment.

It got paid. It was handled.

They still filed court paperwork and I got served at my door like I’m being evicted over a Netflix subscription.

Meanwhile around the property:

trash and dog waste hanging out like permanent residents

strict rules about curtain colors (can’t offend the aesthetic gods)

got told at one point to remove storage furniture for “aesthetics”

but apparently none of that energy applies to, you know, actual upkeep

To be fair—and I mean this—the maintenance team is great. Fast, friendly, and they give treats to dogs, which is honestly the best part of living here.

But everything else feels like:

rules depend on the mood of the office

communication is inconsistent at best

priorities are completely backwards

At this point I’m just trying to figure out if this is normal apartment life now or if I somehow unlocked hard mode.
