To preface: I (22f) suggested the trip to my family initially. However, after my mother casually offered to pay for my (28m) brother AND HIS (2?f) GIRLFRIEND I got offended and declared that I would be traveling alone.

My mother proceeds to suggest that I should pay for my own ticket because I have a decent career (despite uni tuition and cc debt) and my (OLDER) brother is “less fortunate”. For the most part, I can respect her wish to pay for my brother. That is her child after all. BUT HIS GIRLFRIEND? I have to draw the line. We hardly know her, she’s been around for less than five years for sure, and she’s hardly interactive with the family (granted our family is not very interactive anyways but). AIO? I want my ticket paid for.

EDIT: it’s hard to relay all of the details of this decision in one trash post. For context: this all began because my mother suggested that my birthday trip be rescheduled for the end of the year. The original plan was just me and her. So, because my birthday is in the summer I suggested a different location for the colder season and turned it into a family event. That’s why in the original post I began with “I suggested this trip”. My brother has a job. His girlfriend of 2(3?) years has a job. This is planned in much advance.
