Item returned to wrong address
Hoping someone can help me with this. I sold an item, posted it to the buyer but the buyer said they had made a mistake and wanted to return it. I accepted the return and the buyer posted it. On the day the tracking said it was ‘delivered’ there was no sign of it. I gave it a couple of days, tried contacting the buyer to confirm what address it had been sent to but no sign of the package and no response from the buyer. In the meantime I escalated to eBay but all they did was side with the buyer and refund them because the tracking said I’d received it. I therefore phoned Royal Mail and found out that the address on the parcel was NOT mine but they couldn’t tell me what address it had been sent to. They suggested contacting eBay to check that my address on the system was correct - it was.
But eBay also said that the item had been correctly tracked, contradicting what Royal Mail said.
So where do I go from here? Who’s made an error? Is there anyone I can talk to about this. Royal mail said I need to speak to the buyer but the buyer isn’t responding.
