Got scammed by DoorDash

Friday night around 11pm me and a couple mates decided to order McDonald’s through DoorDash. Nothing crazy, just one of those late-night feeds after chilling for a few hours. Ended up spending around $75 total on 3 burger combos, drinks, desserts, the whole lot.

The McDonald’s is literally only about 10 minutes down the road, but the order still took around 30-40 minutes. We didn’t really care too much at that point, we were just hungry and waiting for the food to finally show up.

Driver pulls up, walks over, and hands me one tiny bag.

Straight away I knew something was wrong because there was absolutely no way 3 combos, drinks, and desserts were fitting in this little paper bag. I checked the receipt attached to it and it said something like:
“Cheeseburger extra pickles” and “McChicken.”

That was it.

Completely different order to ours.

I went back and forth with the driver for about 15 minutes trying to figure out what happened. He kept insisting that was the order he was given and just told me to contact DoorDash support. Meanwhile me and my mates are standing there at almost midnight with someone else’s random order instead of the $75 worth of food we paid for.

So I contact DoorDash thinking it’ll be an easy fix because this is obviously a massive mistake, right?

Nope.

They rejected the refund request.

I tried again explaining everything in more detail. Rejected again.

Over the next few days I opened around 7 different support tickets and escalated every single one. Every response felt like some copy-paste automated message saying they “couldn’t verify” the issue.

What annoyed me the most is I’ve genuinely never had issues with DoorDash before, so I didn’t think I needed to start taking 20 photos and recording the interaction like I’m collecting evidence for a court case. I only took one photo of the bag and receipt because I assumed common sense would win.

Apparently not.

In the end I got sick of arguing with support and just went to my bank and filed a chargeback instead, which thankfully went through.

Still blows my mind that a completely wrong order with the wrong receipt attached somehow wasn’t enough proof for DoorDash.

Anyone else had experiences like this with their support lately?
