Bold 9900 vs Classic as dumbphone

Hello all,
Fairly new to blackberry, although I had a Pearl 9105 in the past for a small amount of time (was more of E52 guy at the time).
A 9790 was given to me and I was playing around with it (latest firmware, syncing my contacts and calendar with it) to use it as a dumbphone.

As I spend more time here , the more I see people praising the classic.
So my question is: for kinda of dumbphone does it worth to get a classic?
I have a 9105 and 9900 on the way, but they were like less than 20eur shipped.

Classics go for 50/70's refurbished.
Are they worth it? And if so why? What about Q10 and Q5?

Also for those that got them refurbished from aliexpress are you happy?

And for those that had original ones vs refurbished, what differences do you notice?

As opposed to the older models, afaik battery is not easily replaceable, but correct me if I am wrong.

I have experience with old android phones (Galaxy S I9000, HTC Desire S, Nexus S, LG P500, Rooting, ROMs etc) and I found that they didn't age that well, wouldn't the classic experience be similar?
I don't see much dev for old android neither

Really curious

[Tutorial] How to get your contacts and calendar from iCloud/Google on your Blackberry

Hello all,
For those in need of your calendars and contacts on your old blackberry here is a tutorial with my findings.
Windows only. This was for OS7, to be tested on other OSes.
For OS10, as reported by @TrumpetTiger Google still works directly.

With Microsoft Outlook/Automatic sync:

Install Blackberry Desktop Software (I used the latest 7.1)

Install Microsoft Outlook, it needs to be 32bit! 64bit won't work.

I used 2016, out of the old ones it is the first to support OAuth 2.0 . For 2016, you have to enter the "cd"/image and not run setup.exe but setup32.exe. On my case since I installed office, it was inside the office folder.

edit: update to 2021 and also works. 2010 also work but you need to have app password

Configure your desired email account

For iCloud: install iCloud to windows. Set it up and activate sync calendar and contacts sync

For Google: install Go Contact Sync Mod. Set it up and activate sync appointments (Calendar) and contacts sync.

On my side I choose: google to outlook only, do as you want/is your use case

Get back to Blackberry Desktop Software, connect your blackberry phone, go to organizer, tick contacts and calendar and configure as you prefer (on my side, one way only and I choose the outlook account).

Without Outlook: manual contact sync:

For google:

Google contacts, top right corner, there is an export icon, select vcard. Go to windows start menu, search for contacts and import the vcf.

For iCloud:

iCloud Contacts, 3 dots, select all contacts, top right corner export vcard. Go to windows start menu, search for contacts and import the vcf.

This can be helpful for OS10, if you are on iCloud and need to set up google acount, just import the vcf from icloud to google contacts.

These were my findings, if you have better ways that you tested let us know, maybe we can build a wiki. This was for Blackberry OS7, others may vary

Also let me know if you had sucess with more up to date outlook. Gemini tells me maybe 2019 or 2021 will work. May try it later.

I couldn't make it sync with betterbird so I assume thunderbird doesn't work.

BlackBerry “MagSafe”

As some of you I am also fiddling with an old BlackBerry as a second phone/dumbphone

One of the annoying things is the micro usb cable . It is one more cable to have, and most of the times that connexion start to be damaged by use.
So I found kinda of “magsafe”/magnetic cable with different connectors.
I have for lightning for my iPhone and micro usb for blackberry and usb for my headphones.
So only one cable for all. It does data.
This came from AliExpress and the brand is toocki but I believe there should be other brands available there or other places.

Right now I only found with usb a plug, when I need usb c I add a usb a to usb c converter and it works . if you find one with usb c let me know

Hope it helps someone else

PS: I know this is not a new thing, I had in the past, but didn't work that well. This worked well and was like less than 10eur 1 cable + 3 plugs

Apparently someone does a dock also

Hello all,
Due to finding a Blackberry 9790 in the drawer and get it up and running I am kinda searching for apps and what works and what not.
If anyone is on the same page, maybe share the experience, links etc
PS: DON'T EXPECT 2026 SMARTPHONE EXPERIENCE ON THESE

Threat them like a "feature phone"/"dumb phone"/"java phone" on your expectation level.

https://www.lunar-project.org/ - not only a great archieve of apps and software but also webapps

https://bbviet.info/ - archieve of roms, software, apps, etc

https://s60tube.io.vn/ - can be used on the browser to search and download videos from whatsapp and play it on the video player. works on opera mini

-----------APPS-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Discord - tested on my side, working ok

Opera mini - working on my side

Whatsapp to discord bot - tested on my side, working ok

Not tested by me:
Whatsapp client by novel professor - you need to set up a server, there are instructions and videos, so assume it would work. If someone has tested it please confirm

Whatsapp via web - you need to set up a servers, there are instructions and videos, so assume it would work. If someone has tested it please confirm

Keen on knowing what else do you got working.
So far I couldn't get gps apps to work, even if OS wise it says the gps was working

Hello all,
Hope you are doing well. Kinda offtopic question, but sometimes I see here so much good advice/real world experience that I decided to give it a shot.

So for those that experienced burnout and that are active persons, what did you do get better and which metrics helped you staying on track?

Context: 38yr old M, 1.7 86kg (yeah overweight), mainly cycling (gravel and road) with the occasional running/walking.
Recently burnout, mainly due to work context, and kinda struggling to find the balance between exercising and feeling super well wile doing it (did a BRM 300kms and never felt so awesome in years) and kinda getting a bit "sick" some days after .

So keen on your experiences and advices.
