Forbidden Hanzi Scripture #17 – The Character 奶

Forbidden Hanzi Scripture #17 – The Character 奶

Scripture Fragment #17: 奶(nǎi)

Ancient forms began with 乃…
once associated with the body, with nourishment.

Over time, that original meaning faded.

So a new form was created:

女 — the figure of a woman,
combined with 乃.

Together, they became 奶.

Today, it refers to “milk”…
and by extension, to “grandmother”.

Most see a simple word.
Some see what it once meant.

Scripture Fragment #16: 女(

Ancient cultivators observed the posture of a woman:
kneeling, hands resting before the body, calm and composed.

Thus, the form was carved into script.

Through ages of simplification,
the posture faded,
but the spirit remained.

Today, it is 女 — “woman”or “female”..

Most see only strokes.
Some still see the figure kneeling within them.

Scripture Fragment #14: 力( lì )

It did not originally mean “power”.

It began as the shape of a farming tool,
used to turn the soil.

From the tool…
came the idea of force.

Over time, the form was simplified.

Today, it is 力 — “strength” or “power”.

Most see an abstract concept.
Some see the tool behind it.

Power begins with use.

-

Scripture Fragment #13: 田(tián

This Chinese character looks like a field divided into sections.

Ancient people farmed the land,
marking and dividing it into plots.

The form reflects that structure.

Over time, it was simplified into a clear, stable shape.

Today, it is 田 — “field”.

Most see a simple grid.
Some see the land it represents.

A field, divided and claimed.

Hey fellow daoists, as a Chinese myself, I know these cultivation realms were never truly standardized.

But this is my favorite version — the eight-stage system:

RANK 0: 凡俗 → Mortal

RANK 1: 胎息 → Nascent Breath(or Embryonic Breathing)

RANK 2: 练气 → Qi Refining (or Qi Tempering)

RANK 3: 筑基 → Foundation Establishment

RANK 4: 紫府 → Purple Mansion (or Violet Palace)

RANK 5: 金丹 → Golden Core

RANK 6: 元婴 → Nascent Soul

RANK 7: 化神 → Divine Transformation(or Apotheosis)

-

And I feel like in Reverend Insanity, a Rank 1–5 Gu Master roughly corresponds to the five stages from Nascent Breath(RANK 1) to Golden Core(RANK 5).

As for Rank 6 Gu Masters (Immortals), they can be compared to the Nascent Soul stage(old monster~) as well.

Does this mapping make sense to you?

Scripture Fragment #11: 火

Ancient cultivators observed fire…
rising, flickering, never still.

It reaches upward,
yet breaks apart as it burns.

The form follows the motion.

Over time, it was simplified, but the movement remains.

Today, it is 火 — “fire”.

Most see scattered strokes.
Some see the flame.
