Teaching Subject Requirements(Engineering graduate)

I am a computer engineering graduate and am looking to apply to teachers college for the May 2027 - May 2028 School Year. I've been doing research about admissions requirements and i have some concern as to whether ill be eligible for my ideal subjects.

I'm looking to apply to the I/S stream for Mathematics as my first teaching subject and Physics as my second. My concern is that due to the wording on most of the universities websites i wont be eligible. Wording below.

  1. For your first teaching subject, five (5.0) full or equivalent undergraduate or graduate credits, with a minimum average of 70%, are required. We'll accept no more than two (2.0) full or equivalent related credits.

All of my eligible credits were obtained through either the faculty of engineering or computing, which seem to be considered related credits. (APSC, ELEC and CMPE course codes).

I'm hoping that someone here was in a similar situation and can help clear my doubts about how my credits would be considered? I'm planning to write emails to the admissions offices as well, but am not counting on them.

Hi everyone, I have just finished my Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Engineering) and am trying to figure out which career to choose. I have been considering teaching as an option for a couple years, and the change from 2 years of schooling to 1 makes the option more economically viable for me.

My main question is, how does the job market look for someone who would be entering in May 2028? Some details below about my plans.

Years: Intermediate/Senior

Teachables: Physics & Math

Plan to take AQ for business (probably while I have to be a OT/LTO after graduation)

I’m fine with moving out of the GTA, but id like to stay in southern Ontario as i have family in the GTA and would like to be within 1-2 hrs drive. Somewhere like London, Belleville, Niagara etc.

I’ve heard from many people that the job market for teachers is great, but in this sub I read a lot that there is a teacher surplus. I’m more than happy to be a OT/LTO for a bit, but would I be able to get enough work to live off during that period? How long on average would it take someone with these teachables to get a permanent contract?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
