Im not sure if it’s been said before but they’re both so incredibly incompatible all the time. The way they fight, talk, lead their lives. From the beginning April has been so sure of her faith and kept making Jackson feel like a sin/sinner. Both of them honestly suck for continuous mistreatment of each other over this one very central value. She never loved him, she saw him as maybe an envious counterpart of her own self, he could be a non believer and not have faith drown him. Jackson, idk why he loved April. He enjoyed absolutely nothing she brought to the table. They’re both attractive is the only common thing they seem to have. They love, live and cope very differently.
April going to the army made so much sense for her character, as a god loving Christian she needed to follow a cause and a leader. Jackson, how did he deal with Samuel’s death? Did he get to do that at all? He has an overbearing mother and an absent partner. So he resorts to what exactly? I saw one outrage and that’s it.
This is a genuine question I have, throughout the show there is a certain treatment of the “father” where he is reduced to being logical and taking care of the mother. He is not allowed to grieve. I think it is patriarchy packaged so neatly that we hardly recognise it. Jackson didn’t have a partner to help him with a shared loss. Yes both the parents feel the loss differently but it is still a PARTNERSHIP.
I don’t think any of the couples really looked like they could be “together”. Always a dom and sub, always important and less important dyad. This is not how couples who reflect and decide to grow together act. But these two pissed me off the most out of all the horrible couples.
