As-salamu alaykum brothers and sisters,

I come in peace by telling that my wife and I spoke out our shahada today. We were initally hindus who found peace in Islam. I am proud to say that we are officialy muslim today after practicing islam for 5 months. I am wondering now, do we still need to do this in a mosque to make it official? We are going to Dubai next week for our holiday and wanted to do our shahada there in a mosque. Is it still needed?

Thank you

Assalamu alaykum brothers and sisters,

This is quite personal, and I would really appreciate some advice.

InshaAllah, I will soon take my shahada together with my wife. We were both raised Hindu, and we’ve been married for 2 years under hindu principles and also civil for the law in The Netherlands, we are born here. Over the past year, I went through some difficult situations that led me to Islam, and alhamdulillah, my wife has been on this journey with me.

We’ve been practicing Islam since the beginning of this year, praying daily and finding a lot of peace and strength in our faith. SubhanAllah, it’s been a big change for both of us, and my wife also wants to take her shahada with me.

However, we’re a bit unsure about what comes next. We were married in a Hindu ceremony, and we don’t have much knowledge yet about what is required after becoming Muslim.

My main question is: do we need to perform a nikah after our shahada? Is our current marriage still valid, or do we need to remarry Islamically? If so, what are the steps, and should it be shahada first and then nikah?

We genuinely want to do things the correct way, but everything is still new to us, so any guidance would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance. 🤲
