Site Supervision tips for a non-engineer

Small multi disciplinary consultancy in Europe. I will be the on site supervisor on a small project soon due to some other people not being available. I work with engineers but not an engineer myself, more of a consultant/project manager and I didn't study engineering. I have some experience on site but not much.

The project only involves earthworks - nothing is being built. In a remote area. Contractor has a few medium sized excavators and associated machinery on site to complete the job

I will be on site every other day for a couple of weeks. Any tips on what I should be focusing on?

What can I get for less than £500/$650 that isn't crap?

What can I get in the 50-65inch range for less than £500/$650 that isn't crap? Or am I just better off going with whatever is on sale at this price range?
