Hello everyone. I'm 27 F.
I had turbinate reduction on 6th February. Coming out of anesthesia was really bad for me, but I don't think that matters for my current situation. Afterwards I was prescribed antibiotics for a week and some other usual things for longer use. (I had septoplasty only with a different doctor in 2023, but it fixed nothing).
Soon after I could feel a bad smell in my nose, to which my doctor said is normal. Weeks later this bad smell developed in a weird way - I didn't have it when my nose was relaxed, but only when scrunched up.
My last checkup was on 8th April and the doctor told me that I didn't need to visit him anymore, because I was healing fine, and that I could stop using sprays after 10 more days. I'm not sure if he heard the crunched up part, but he again told me that the bad smell in nose was normal, even after 2 months post op. I decided to keep using sprays (Aquamaris, Grinsol and Palmitol)
Today is 5th May and I still have bad smell in nose, along with discharge, which varies from usual white to bright yellow sometimes, and when I blow, I have this greenish sort of hard buildup from my right nostril. And another probably unrelated thing - my throat is quite sore sometimes in the mornings, even though I otherwise breathe from the nose muuch much better than before surgery. I am still using the 3 sprays to this day.
So my question is, is my current situation normal and to be expected 3 months post surgery, and will go away on its own? Is it not normal but can go away on its own? Is it not normal and do I need to go to the doctor again? (This was my initial reaction, but I don't wanna spend money and find out I panicked for no reason) Could it be the sprays are making the situation worse?
Advice from similar experience would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Update: I went for a checkup and the doctor again told me that it's not out of the ordinary. He didn't mention it being an infection and I still have no response of why it only smells with a crunched up nose : ( I was told to continue sprays for 10 more days and if smell and discharge persist for 20 days after today, to go for a checkup again. He also prescribed Lysobact tablets for throat 4 times a day. If I remember, I'll update the progress on 10th and 20th days.
