Which group would you align with, depending on if you, your friend, or family member had a terminal illness?

Background: Your Friend (30+) recently went into remission from a form of genetic brain cancer, they successfully removed the tumors. Friend has been through speech therapy and regained the ability to walk. Friend's almost completely back to how they were before the cancer diagnosis. At the time, when they were diagnosed, surgeons said the cancer was likely operable but Friend's highest risk of death was on the operating table. It took 5 months for Friend to get the surgery. During this time, some of Friend's family members and friends (Group A) did everything Friend wanted to do, and as a group let Friend win a lot of competitive group activities like boardgames/raffles. Other members of Friend's family and friends (Group B) treated them essentially the same as pre-diagnosis, did some activities they wanted to do, and slightly increased the amount of time they normally spend with Friend. After the surgery Group A significantly pulled back their special treatment of Friend, but Group B has remained relatively the same towards Friend.

My question is: Which group would you have been apart of? Which group would you have prefered if you were terminally ill? Would your answer change depending on if you passed away or survived?
