20M How do women feel about being approached respectfully in public?

TL;DR: Do women mind if a guy approaches them politely, gives them a compliment, and asks them out?

Hello ladies of Reddit,

First of all, thank you to everyone who replies to this post.

I was recently in a talking stage with someone who felt like everything I had ever wanted, but I messed it up because I didn’t dedicate enough time because a family problem came up! After being heartbroken for a bit because of how awesome this girl was, I’m trying to put myself out there again, meet new people, and see where things go.

After looking online, I’ve seen a lot of people recommend being bold and approaching women in person, obviously without being creepy or pushy.

My question is: do women generally mind if a guy randomly approaches them and says something like, “Hey, I thought you were really pretty and seemed interesting. Would you be open to exchanging numbers?”

I’m not socially awkward or introverted, but I always overthink it. I worry that maybe she has a boyfriend, maybe she doesn’t want to be disturbed because she’s studying, working on her laptop, leaving the gym, or just going about her day.

Am I overthinking this, or do most women not mind as long as the approach is respectful?

Hello,

I’m currently trying to enlist in the Air Force. I scored a 94 percentile on the ASVAB and was originally planning to pursue Special Warfare, but when I discovered 9S100, Scientific Applications Specialist, it immediately stood out as the job I wanted.

Here’s my situation: I was born in Cuba, my father is Italian, and I have been a naturalized U.S. citizen for about eight years. I’m 19 now. I do not have a close relationship with my father and have not since I was 3 years old, and I consider myself fully loyal to the United States. I would be willing to take a polygraph or provide any additional documentation to prove my loyalty.

My recruiter told me I cannot list 9S100 because dual citizens supposedly cannot get a Top Secret clearance. However, a family friend who previously worked as a security officer and managed clearances for an entire base told me that many people with dual citizenship do hold Top Secret clearances.

My recruiter said he asked his flight chief, and they are trying to see whether there is any way forward in my situation.

Does anyone have experience with dual citizenship, naturalized citizenship, and eligibility for Top Secret jobs in the Air Force, specifically 9S100? I’m not looking to hide anything or bypass the process. I just want to understand whether this is a hard disqualifier or something that can be reviewed case by case.

Any advice would be appreciated.
