Quick question about transfer credits and GPA calculation for degree laddering (Civil Engineering)
Hey everyone,
I just got full acceptance into the Civil Engineering program for Fall 2026. I'm transferring over from UFV where I did almost two years of Computing Science.
I'm planning on applying for course exemptions for first-year and second year Calculus and Physics since I already took university-level equivalents. However, I had a couple of lower grades in my second year at UFV that I’m worried about.
My plan is to ladder from the Diploma into the B.Eng. degree, which I know requires keeping a competitive GPA.
If I transfer these courses over:
- Do the actual letter grades/percentages from my old university transfer over and affect my cumulative BCIT GPA? Or do they just show up as "CR" (Credit) with a neutral 0.00 GPA impact?
- If you've transferred math/physics credits into Civil before, did you find it was worth skipping them to lighten the heavy course load, or did you regret not retaking them for an easy GPA boost?
Any insight from past transfer students or Civil grads would be awesome. Thanks!
