My 18 month old doesn’t have any consistent words. He communicates very well with sounds - like what we call his “dinosaur sound” when he doesn’t want something or wants a different toy, his happy sound when he’s excited or interested in something. Of course we read to him constantly and do lots of narrating etc for language but he doesn’t copy - or not very obviously anyway.
He’s got brilliant eye contact and is very interactive. Isn’t a bit pointer but he does point when he sees something interesting. The weird thing is ever since he was 12 months old we’ve said words to him and every so often he’ll copy that exact word and smile in a way that shows he’s impressed with himself 😂❤️
But he won’t say the word again or doesn’t say anything consistently.
I have reached out to the public health nurse and she’s put him on the list for speech therapy but just wondering has anyone else had a similar experience with their little one? Like today I was saying “say dada” and he smiles in a knowing way almost like “I can say that word but I’m not gonna” because he’s said it a few times when I’ve asked him.
Anyway super confused. He’s not a big performer, he’s a little sweetheart and I adore him so much I just worry he’ll never properly speak. 😭❤️ If your respond please be nice xox
