Supporting someone with T1D?

Hey everyone, I hope it’s okay for me to post here since I don’t have diabetes myself.

I recently started living with a guy who has Type 1 diabetes, and I’m trying to understand how to support him better. He’s a few years younger than me and manages things with multiple daily injections (different types of insulin too?). From what I understand, he seems to have problems holding his level stable? He isn't extremely talkative, which doesn't make it easier to help him. Maybe I'm being too pushy though, but he doesn't seem to manage it well, so I'm worried.

I’m the one who does most of the cooking, so I’m especially unsure how much that affects him. I try to make balanced meals for all of us, but I don’t really know how timing or portion sizes play into this all. I also worry because he doesn’t seem very keen on going to the doctor.

Is there anything I can watch out for or is there any way I could help him better? Or could there ever be any emergency situations where I'd have to act in a certain way? Or anything else I should know?

Sorry if any of these are stupid questions. I honestly don’t understand a lot about this (yet!) but I really want to help him. If there’s anything else you think is important or that you wish more people knew, please tell me whatever comes to mind. And this got so rambly! So thank you to anyone for whatever small bit.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I don't want to interfere in how he handles any of this without his consent! Maybe I worded it poorly and I apologize for that. We're all in a less than easy situation and I have known him for a good bit. Just worried.
