Where have I seen this jersey….maybe in a different color?
So…I know if this is a question, or anyone else experience this, or just an affirmation or discussion. But here we go.
Currently have an Apple Watch 10, Oura Ring 4, Whoop 5.0 MG
in the past I have switched btw android and apple - started long ago with a Garmin activity band that had built in GPS (something like a vivofit/active) - then got an iPhone and an Apple Watch 6ish - then back to android, tried to use the Apple Watch still, kinda worked kinda annoying - insert Oura Ring - back to iPhone and hello AW10 - then 1-2 months ago my credit card had a perk for a full statement credit for a whoop 5.0 MG life subscription (I think I just paid taxes figured what the hell - I’m also a sucker for these gadgets and whatnots).
So first, 6ish months ago I stopped wearing my AW and Oura (this was before the whoop). I tried out Welltory and Bevel (and the Oura app) to just try and get in shape, increase my fitness, just exercise regularly, lose weight, manage stress. But, the welltory and bevel apps were saying I was overwhelmed and full of stress ALL THE TIME. Now….i certainly can be stressed out a ton but I would not say 24/7 (also on bupropion which messes with HRV this bad stress readings). Also, would get these “take it easy today”. So I got frustrated because (1) I’m not constantly stressed - hah kinda funny thinking of that, (2) apps saying take it easy but I feel good to go so what the heck, and (3) stopped really doing anything with the data.
So then, I really only wore my AW when working out (usually peloton tread or basic weights/resistance bands in my tiny “gym” with low ceilings) b/c I can use that as my heart rate monitor on my peloton that worked better than the peloton heart sensor I had. Then I got the whoop - and wearing this full time to try it out has made me think about this whole thing again.
Kinda feel like should just stay with “who cares about all these metrics” - and then wear the AW while working out and just whenever I want a watch.
But also feel like ok if I want to get in shape lose weight then seems like it would be somewhat helpful to have some of these stats - double but, I can still just go off my own feeling - oh an app says my HRV is low but I feel good (or whatever other example).
When I’m in the mood I use the app LoseIt! for calories and other basic general fiber/protein daily targets (been using in for over a decade). In short, you can get a “calorie bonus” if you burn more a certain day (I assume it’s all estimates so I don’t necessarily treat it as strict “oh I earned a bonus so it’s true”). AW links the best with LoseIt, Oura does not, Whoop I haven’t tried.
I like heart rate data for workouts b/c I feel like that gives a more accurate calories burned. AW and Whoop can act as the heart rate monitor for the peloton. Oura I can do workouts on the app but not sync the HR to the peloton.
Oura ring is the most comfortable in my eyes. I already have a wedding ring, so after a week or so, don’t really notice the Oura ring in me. Also, I can wear a normal watch with my Oura ring and still collect data of some sort (maybe just overall health trends)
This past summer I got a high heart rate notification from my AW twice in a week. Showed my doc, nothing bad for now (showed my doc the graph/chart of the reading). From what I have read, Oura does not do a push notification for reading my HR in the background, I’ve read whoop does and would do the same as the AW. Again nothing in my health seems to suggest any heart issues but I like that extra potential ability to catch something.
With that, when researching seems like people say the AW sensors are better than the Whoop? Ah have tattoos on one arm so the Apple Watch can’t go on that arm (which is my non dominant wrist - so that was a fun adjustment after the tattoos) - Whoop does work through my tattoos
AW it’s that or a normal watch in my eyes, also feel like the AW is the first of the three I get “annoyed” wearing as in it starts to feel uncomfortable first.
Whoop I feel like I can still wear a watch - or I see Whoop has more locations it can work where I don’t look like inspector gadget on my wrists if I want to also wear a watch (I see wrist, bicep, thigh or butt with the underwear? Even read calf). So if I get tired of it on my left wrist, well I can switch it to the right or the bicep (strap coming tomorrow to try out)
So feels like Oura ring should be out due to no background HR notifications and no HR shown on peloton. Whoop I might fall back into tracking 24/7 but I noticed on the app I like this whole daily outlook where it’s all “hey for your goals what do you think about either a 15 min run or a 30 min walk” or different plans for the day.
So idk, has anyone gone through similar thoughts or experiences? How you thought it through or any other general thoughts or advice?
