If my roommate does something negligent and we're on a joint lease will my insurance's personal liability protection kick in?

Specifically a scenario where the roommate is negligent (starts fire, leaves sink running causing flood, etc.) and the landlord comes after both of us since the liability is joint per the lease.

Trying to insulate myself from liability in these scenarios. I have renters/umbrella insurance for myself.
