Methods of reading the tarot: context or no context?
Yesterday, I tried a fun tarot reading exercise with a friend where they thought of a question without telling me what it was, and then I drew cards trying to determine what it was about. I've seen tarot readers on here before say this is a preferred method for them, so I wanted to give it a shot, experiment with it, even if it's not my cup of tea.
started the reading with a queen, and then another queen, so I figured this was about a woman. then the four of cups, which I interpreted as a potential rejection or denial of something. then came the chariot, planning to make a move in some way. the page of pentacles, exploring something physical. then finally the knight of wands, so I said it could be chasing some sort of passion, or even looking for a sexual encounter.
It was completely spot on!! They'd been thinking about making a pass on someone we knew. I was totally shocked by the accuracy of it, I have a hard time "feeling" my intuition so I tend to make educated guesses with the tarot. I thought the message would be really broad but ended up suiting the scenario perfectly.
I thought this was really cool for "reading" a situation, but how would you go about this method if someone was looking for advice or information? The whole experience made me really curious about what other methods people use to read tarot cards. **Do you need information before drawing? or do you draw cards without context?** ***what other methods of reading cards are there?*** I'd love to know.
Personally, I prefer if the question I'm asked comes with a little bit of context or explanation for why, so that when I'm reading the cards I can be as accurate and specific as possible to the situation at hand. some people may find this invasive, but I think that by asking someone to read tarot cards, by default you're asking them to look at your life and read your energy. If you're not cool with divulging, it's gonna make it difficult, since tarot is inherently invasive through observation.
