Hello there everyone! Happy early May the Fourth!
TL;DR: I have a mod coming out this Monday where you can face off against infinite waves of unique creatures- and if you submit me videos of your progress in the arena, I’ll give a prize to whoever makes it furthest before dying!
I’m Sao, a bit of a nooby KOTOR modder. I came to trying KOTOR modding last year, and was pretty pleased I’ve been able to release my first mod. You might know that mod, [Sleheyron: Story Mode.](https://deadlystream.com/files/file/2754-sleheyron-story-mode/page/5/?tab=comments#comments)
But this Monday I have another mod coming. A very different one. Less focus on story, more on CHALLENGE!
Because that’s something KOTOR has always somewhat been missing. Maybe the game was harder when we were playing it 24 years ago, but nowadays it’s truly quite easy to min-max and skip all the hard parts.
So with that in mind… I created a new hard part. A very hard part.
Introducing the **Arena of the Glorious Jewel**! A new roguelike minigame for KOTOR set in the arena of Sleheyron, using cut-content modules from the original game. Here you’ll face off against **INFINITE** waves of ever-increasingly-difficult foes of all varieties. There will be in-game credits galore for your progress, and you can always leave (and reset your progress!) at any point- to then go back in when you think you can make it a bit further!
The wave composition is mostly randomized, minimizing the ability for a player to memorize strategies. You’ll need to test your stat builds and improvisational skills to make it through here. Not to mention your non-combat stats, as you repair droids and heal trained attack beasts, all bought with your big pile of Blood Money!
(What’s “Blood Money?” Why, it’s the currency you loot off the corpses of the many mercenaries of the arena!)
How many beasts of the Demon Moon can you endure?
Have you ever wanted to fight a Krayt Dragon without a bunch of mines?
What’s something from Taris you *really* missed in the rest of the game?
How good is your ability to manage minion spawns?
Ever wonder what happens when you feed a Gizka Baradium?
Enter the arena this **May Fourth** to find out!
Despite my hyping up of the challenge, I do want to stress: the arena really is for everyone. Anyone can enter and enjoy a few waves. It’s only when you pass wave 30, and fight the boss, that you start to get to the crazy hard endurance battles.
So you might be asking: Why would I want to bother trying these super-hard late waves? Well anonymously questioner, the answer is a tale as old as time: **BECAUSE YOU’LL GET FREE STUFF!**
With the permission of the mods of this subreddit, I’m running a contest to see who the greatest champion of the KOTOR community is. If you enter the Discord server below, you’ll be invited to submit videos of your attempts in the arena.
*(Video submission only, please, since it’s the only way we can validate nobody is using cheating builds with the Save Editor)*
And to spice up the competition, whoever has video proof of making it to the furthest wave, will win a gift from ME! I have two prizes for the Greatest Champion: First, a Steam key for a Star Wars game of your choice (within a price limit, unfortunately) And if you already have all the Star Wars games you want, we can talk out something else that works for you.
The second prize is smaller but just a bit more fun. I’m currently working on another KOTOR story mod, this time on Rhen Var in TSL, and I can offer to let you design a NPC for the mod that I will implement.
I don’t expect too many volunteers for this competition, but if this does explode in popularity, I will extend the amount of prizes beyond just the grand champion.
[The discord link is here.](https://discord.gg/PdgXxKNAm) Special thank-you to the mods for permitting discord link posting in this post.
I really, truly, hope to see you all in the arena. This project has been a ton of fun to design, and I think you’ll enjoy it.
May the Fourth be with you! Always!
Hey everyone, was looking for some ideas on something:
Whats a good example of a prize for a KOTOR-related contest? I’m planning to release a mod this week (maybe May 4th actually), and I was planning to host a contest pertaining to it and I wanted there to be a prize. The mod will be an infinite-waves battle arena, and I wanted to award something to whoever can make it to the highest wave. Probably running the contest through May.
So far the best idea I have is to let the winner name a character in my next story mod, but I think that I could do better.
Any ideas?
My final chapter of Sleheyron is coming very soon, in just the next few days. Are you ready to enter the Arena of the Glorious Jewel? How many waves of the worst mercenaries, machines, and monsters are you going to be able to endure? Will you manage to slay Bogga the Hutt’s greatest beast? Or will you die explosively by a misstep into a pool of lava?
Find out soon!
EDIT: the people have spoken! The AI art used in this mod will be stripped out. But if anyone has any cool official Star Wars art (or even just an idea for a wall poster) that they think would be a good fit for the arena, please feel free to post it in this thread! Or just feel free to continue ripping me for having even placeholder AI art; I assure you I welcome that feedback as well!
Also: please feel free to use this thread to give honest opinions on the small amount of AI-generated poster art shown in this screenshot. I don’t exactly love AI-generated art, but I was going for a style of larger-than-life and tacky aesthetics; something AI can do well. I considered replacing the artwork but it tested well in the alpha. But please do provide feedback!
Mods, I do humbly request this post not be taken down due to “AI generated content,” since it’s not the core of this post. But if I did indeed break a serious rule, I apologize and I’ll be fine with this coming down.
