We’ve been hit several times this month with scammers calling in $50–$100 pickup orders using stolen cards. They pay over the phone, then send an Uber courier or third-party driver to collect the food. A few days later the chargeback hits and we lose everything.

Right now I’m having staff hold all phone-paid pickup orders until the customer arrives with ID and the physical card, but my team says it slows down legitimate guests too much.

I’m curious what other owner/operators are doing in real life to stop this without destroying the ordering-ahead experience.

Has anyone found a process that actually works?
