I am wondering if can reface these MDF cabinets. Ideally with painted wood doors. I assume I can replace the cabinet header and footer. But what can I do about the cabinet sides?

I bought a home and updating the kitchen cabinets is not in budget now. I’m trying to improve what I have by replacing cabinet pulls and I would like to replace drawer slides as well. The existing drawer slides are noisy, feel stiff and rough, and are not soft close. The slides are 22” long. what other measurements do I need to pay attention to? also, the sides of the drawers are metal. How can I install regular drawer slides on these? Or do I need to buy something specific for these? Also, the cabinets are MDF. Will I be able to securely attach new cabinet slides with screws? Thank you so much for your advice!!!
