Richmond BC drivers — maybe think twice about doing food delivery

Been driving around Richmond, BC for a while now, and honestly, if you’re new or thinking about switching to Uber Eats… just be aware of what you’re getting into.
Tips are almost nonexistent
Compared to other areas, tipping culture here is really weak. You can do everything right—fast pickup, polite delivery, follow instructions—and still end up with $0 tip way more often than you’d expect.
Restaurant staff attitude can be rough
Not all places, but enough of them. Some staff act like drivers are an inconvenience. Long waits, ignored at the counter, or just straight-up rude interactions.
Low pay from restaurants / orders
A lot of orders just don’t make sense financially. Base pay is low, and without tips, you’re basically driving for peanuts.
“Meet at door” = no one shows up
This happens constantly. Customer selects “meet at door,” you arrive on time, message them… and nothing. You end up waiting, calling, wasting time.
Worst case: no unit number + no show + bad rating
This one’s wild. No unit number, customer doesn’t respond, you leave it somewhere reasonable… and then get hit with a bad rating. Feels completely unfair.
Class attitude toward delivery work
You can feel it sometimes—like people look down on delivery drivers. Not everyone, but enough to notice. There’s definitely a sense from some customers that this job isn’t “respectable.”
Not saying don’t do it at all—but if you have the option, you might want to focus on rides instead of food delivery in this area.
Curious if other Richmond drivers feel the same or if I’ve just been unlucky.
