ELI5: If computers only understand 1s and 0s, and can only perform mathematical operations, how do they turn numbers into something more complicated like operating systems and Crysis?

ELI5: Why do computers need to boot from a low-level boot ROM?

Why can't computers boot into the operating system directly? What's the point in having something before the OS? When the operating system starts, does the BIOS/ROM pass full control of the computer to the kernel and lose any say in how the computer runs moving forward?

What if somewhere down the line, a queen consort cheated and lied about her king's paternity. The prince or princess couldn't have been royal by blood and the king or queen of that kingdom today isn't a legitimate monarch. Are all monarchs today verified by DNA examination?
